The Tribe has had a vested interest in the Nisqually location, and for now, it will continue to operate it as a restaurant. Though the popular spot has a new name, Medicine Creek Cafe, the new owners have retained the restaurant’s employees and recently celebrated a grand opening and lunch at the new cafe.

According the Nisqually Tribe newsletter “Squalli Absch News,” the restaurant was called Tiny’s when constructed in the 1965 and became Norma’s in 1993. Bob lyall, MCEC chief executive officer, also noted in the newsletter that there will be some “décor changes and some rebranding to better reflect Nisqually ownership as well as some menu changes.” MCEC already owned two lots in the Nisqually Commercial Park near Norma’s, the Nisqually Market and one new business, Nisqually Communications.

With the acquisition of Norma’s, the Nisqually Tribe will employ about 1,300 people in Thurston and Pierce County via the Red Wind Casino, Nisqually government and administration jobs, six Nisqually Markets, the Nisqually Construction Company, She Na Num Seafood in Tumwater and Nisqually Communications Company as well as MCEC itself.
